Story I'm proud of

I spent Saturday with Anthony Spencer and his family. Spencer played football at Purdue and was drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft on Saturday by the Dallas Cowboys. I met a lot of people who were surprisingly receptive to me hanging out for more than six hours taking pictures and doing interviews. It was a good day.

Sweeping changes

I've come to the conclusion that I really need to update this blog more frequently than bi-monthly. I'll certainly work on improving that.

In any case, as the title to this post would suggest big changes are directly ahead of me - on a variety of levels. First and foremost, I've officially changed jobs at work. I was asked to change from my role as a photographer to be a part of the Sports staff. In fact, my official title is now Staff Writer/Photographer. In other words, I will be responsible for covering the local, regional, and sometimes national sports scene both in words and images. While I have the ability to write, I must state that my first interest is shooting photos. But, as with any significant change, one can choose to reject or accept it. Considering that I can be quite competitive, especially with myself, I've decided it won't be such a bad thing to accept the challenge.

Actually, being a member of the sports staff will allow me to put together projects that I have almost total control over the look and content which can be personally satisfying. The move also allows me to focus on sports, and for me, that is the best part of the whole thing. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy shooting all types of pictures, but I'm a sports guy. My hope is that I will serve the Fort Wayne and surrounding area readers well.

The second major change on the horizon will be the addition of a brand new baby in just about two months. I have an 11-year-old son, and it has been great to watch him grow and become his own person. He wants a little brother and is already bartering with my wife on babysitting pay rates. Now, I get to go back to the beginning and deal with the screaming, puking, and diaper changing all over again. It is an exciting time for my wife, my son and me, and we're all looking forward the times ahead.

Here in the Fort, were just about knee deep in a Komets playoff run, we have arena football picking up steam and minor league baseball blasting out of the gates - not to mention, the Indy 500 is right around the corner. So, I'll work to get some photos up on the blog and keep my loyal 2 or 3 readers informed about the progress with new job. Take care.
